1100 GSM Dual-Layer Microfiber Drying Towel in Two Sizes — DRY-1100
The DRY-1100 is the value-tier entry to the Khemia Plus DRY line — a 1100 GSM dual-layer microfiber car drying towel built with the same premium construction as our DRY-1500 and DRY-2200, at a more approachable price point. Twist-loop weave on a 70% polyester / 30% polyamide blend, with the same fabric on both sides hemmed together for maximum absorption. Available in two sizes for two different jobs in your detailing kit.
Why 1100 GSM dual-layer matters
Around the 1000–1100 GSM range is where premium twist-loop drying towels start behaving like true drying tools rather than basic wet wiping cloths. At this weight, twist-loop microfiber holds enough water to dry significant surface area without immediately saturating, while staying soft enough to glide across paint without risk of marring. Below this range, you're back to "wet rag after two panels" territory.
What makes the DRY-1100 different from generic 1100 GSM drying towels: dual-layer construction. Most drying towels at this GSM are single-layer — one face of microfiber, with the other side being just hemming or a different material. The DRY-1100 is two complete layers of premium twist-loop microfiber hemmed together, doubling the working surfaces. Both faces are full pile, so you can flip the towel to a fresh dry side without changing direction or grip.
Two sizes, two jobs
The DRY-1100 comes in two sizes, each suited to different roles in a detailing kit:
- Medium (50×60 cm) — Aqua Blue / Light Grey dual-sided — the versatile secondary or light-job towel. Compact format makes it easy to handle on motorcycles, smaller vehicles, light maintenance washes, or as a backup in a pro detailer's kit when the primary towel needs wringing. In our internal testing under controlled conditions, the Medium handled one full sedan before complete saturation. The dual-color sides (aqua on one face, grey on the other) help track which face is wet vs dry during a job — flip from blue to grey for the cleaner final pass
- Large (63×91 cm) — Aqua Blue — primary full-vehicle drying at a more accessible price than DRY-1500. The bigger format handles a full car in one continuous job. In our internal testing under controlled conditions, the Large handled up to two sedans before complete saturation. The right pick for buyers who want full-coverage drying without stepping all the way up to the DRY-1500 tier
Real-world capacity varies with vehicle size, water temperature, and drying technique.
Where DRY-1100 fits in the DRY line
The DRY line covers three drying scenarios using the same dual-layer twist-loop construction:
- DRY-1100 (this product) — the entry point to the line. Available in two sizes. Use the medium as a versatile secondary towel; use the large for full-vehicle drying at a value-tier price point
- DRY-1500 — premium full-vehicle workhorse. Higher GSM in a 76×76 cm format. Handles up to three full vehicles in one job in our internal testing under controlled conditions — the right pick for professional detailers running multiple cars per day
- DRY-2200 — compact precision. Smaller format (50×50 cm), highest GSM in the line. Use for tight spots, glass, badges, and detail areas the larger towels can't follow into
A typical kit pairing: DRY-1100 Medium + DRY-1500 (or DRY-1100 Large), or DRY-1100 Large + DRY-2200 for buyers who want full coverage plus precision detail work without the DRY-1500 price point.
Where it earns its place
- Full-vehicle drying after a wash (Large size) — the bulk of the work, hood through trunk, in one continuous job
- Light or maintenance washes (Medium size) — quick jobs where a full-size towel is overkill
- Motorcycle and bike drying (Medium size) — easier handling on smaller surfaces with curves and tight spots
- Secondary or backup towel in a pro detailing kit — for when the primary towel saturates mid-job
- Wet-product application — for sealants, waxes, or polishes applied wet, the dual-layer absorbency lifts product residue cleanly
- Layered drying workflow — pair Large with DRY-2200 for full coverage + precision details
- Glass and headlight drying — the dense pile prevents water spots on glass even in warm conditions
Where it doesn't fit your kit
- Multi-vehicle professional workflow — for drying two or three cars per job without stopping to wring, DRY-1500 is the right tier
- Tight detail spots and glass-only work — at 50×60 cm minimum, the medium DRY-1100 is still larger than ideal for badge work, mirror caps, or rocker panel transitions. DRY-2200 is built for those
- General cleaning or scrubbing — drying towels handle water, not abrasion. Use ALL PURPOSE TERRY or LIGHT TERRY for those tasks
- Polish or coating residue lift — twist-loop weave is not designed for cured residue removal. THE DAILY or DUAL TERRY's dense side handle that work
- Wash media (contact wash) — for the wash step, use the CHENILLE MITT
How to use it
Use whichever drying technique works for you — patting, blotting, dragging, or the spread-and-pull method. The DRY-1100 works with all of them because the dual-layer twist-loop construction relies on absorbency and weave structure rather than a specific drying technique. Work top-down so gravity carries water away from already-dried surfaces. As one face starts to feel heavy, flip to the other side — both faces are full working surfaces.
For the medium dual-color variant: use the aqua side for the first heavier-water pass, then flip to the grey side for the cleaner final dry. The visible color contrast helps track your workflow when you're moving between panels and don't want to lose track of which face is fresh.
Care instructions
Wash separately from cotton with microfiber-specific detergent. Never bleach or fabric softener — both flatten the twist-loop pile and you lose the absorption capacity that makes dual-layer construction worth the cost. Air dry when possible; tumble dry on low heat is fine but high heat damages the loops over time. With proper care, DRY-1100 maintains its full performance for hundreds of washes.
